Proposals are now being accepted for the 2019 NASPA Student Financial Wellness Conference until February 1, 2019. This year’s conference will take place June 16-19 in Orlando, FL.  This impactful conference, hosted by NASPA and The Ohio State University, will convene scholars and practitioners to discuss the complexities of college students’ financial wellness. Participants will learn effective, holistic strategies for helping students improve their fiscal health and remain financially stable after graduation. Ohio State is making Amazon Web Services available to users and departments across the university. There are a significant number of services available through AWS, each with their own cost model. Student Life Technology Services asks that you not create an account without first working with SLTS.

Trained Things

Student Life Technology Services is restructuring to renew the focus on traditional client services (desktop, laptop and tablet-related services) while addressing the growing set of needs driven by the Internet of Things (IoT). The number of Student Life supported internet-enabled devices is growing exponentially and include a wide variety of smart devices such as CPR mannequins and coffee machines. The new Specialist Workplace Services team will function as subject matter experts or leads for supporting unique technologies. Contact Student Life Technology Services for more information.

Well Trained

Student Life’s Gustavo Molinar has been named 2019 “Outstanding Masters Student” by NASPA’s Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community. This annual award is presented to a rising young student affairs professional who continuously seeks to integrate their research and practice with the needs of the Latinx/a/o student population. Gustavo is Assistant Hall Director at Park-Stradley and also has an assistantship in the Student Life Multicultural Center working on Latino Student Initiatives. He is a second year master’s student in the HESA program.  

Recovery is Spoken Here-Recovery Ally

Student Life’s Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC), in partnership with the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery, is offering Recovery is Spoken Here training in the RPAC on Thursday, January 24, at 3 p.m.  The aim is to foster an environment where students in or seeking recovery feel accepted by their peers, are encouraged to share about their recovery, feel comfortable asking for help and are celebrated by the Ohio State community. This 90 minute training will be led by a CRC staff member. SEE Training

If you are new to supervising student employees in the Office of Student Life, or would like a refresher on the Student Employment Experience (SEE), you can sign up for this semester’s SEE on-boarding session for supervisors of students.
