Traffic

During the Ohio State Four-Miler event on Sunday (10/23), Cannon, between Herrick and Woody Hayes, will be closed 7 a.m.–noon. All lanes of Woodruff, Woody Hayes, Herrick, College, 19th, 17th, and sections of 12th, Tuttle and Neil, will be closed 9 a.m. – noon. From 7 – 9 a.m., the Campus Loop North will be rerouted via Herrick Dr. From 9 a.m. – noon, the Campus Loop North and Buckeye Village routes will be suspended. Significant traffic delays and limited parking availability are anticipated. During the Four-Miler, vehicular traffic will not be able to enter/exit areas located within the event route, including Tuttle, Northwest and Neil Ave. parking garages.  More information is available online.

Sexual Civility and Empowerment Committee

Invite

Student Life’s Sexual Civility and Empowerment invites all students, staff, faculty and administration to participate in the newly renamed Sexual Civility and Empowerment Committee (formerly known as the Sexual Violence Committee) on Wednesday, November 2, from 12:45-2:15 p.m. in Houston House 1874 Room. This is an educational meeting that offers an overview of services provided by Student Life Sexual Civility and Empowerment regarding the prevention of sexual violence and victim/survivor support. This session offers context for allies to provide support, advocacy and education to others. Please email Natalie Fiato at sce@osu.edu for more information.

Open enrollment is November 1-15 when you can assess your benefit options and make changes to your current enrollment. The Office of Human Resources is offering webinars and in-person forums to explain the extensive 2017 changes. You can register and access links online. Student Life HR will stream the presentations on these dates (no registration needed).

Data analytics month at Ohio State

Data

The first annual Data Analytics Month @ Ohio State runs Thursday, October 26, through Thursday, November 20.  The series of workshops, lectures, challenges and events focuses on data analytics and decision science, from privacy issues to how-to demonstrations to interactive art installations. All members of the Ohio State community are invited. More information is online or email tda@osu.edu

Drug Take Back

Student Life Student Health Services is hosting a Drug Take Back Day on Thursday, October 27, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Wilce Student Health Center pharmacy. Drug take back days are an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or unused medications. It is extremely important to dispose of medications in a secure manner to prevent drug diversion and to keep the people in our communities safe and healthy. Student Life, Generation Rx, the Ohio State Police Division and the College of Pharmacy are coordinating the event. More information is online.   

Alumni Awards 2016

Award

BuckeyeThon has won the Ohio State Alumni Association’s E. Gordon Gee Spirit of Ohio State Award. The association is celebrating more than 50 years of excellence by honoring alumni and others who have brought extraordinary credit to Ohio State. The Gee Spirit of Ohio State award is presented to those who demonstrate devotion to Ohio State and who promote school spirit with integrity and honor. The association notes that these important traits are ones found in the university’s greatest and most accomplished alumni and friends.

BLF

The application period for prospective Buckeye Leadership Fellows for the 2017-2019 cohort is open now through until Monday, October 31.  BLF is a diverse and select multidisciplinary program, encompassing a rigorous personal, professional and leadership development co-curricular experience spanning across four semesters.  Interested students may apply during their sophomore year.

Restaurant Weekend

Students, faculty and staff can discover some of Columbus' best independent eateries during Dine Originals' Ohio State Restaurant Weekend, now through Sunday, October 23.  Restaurants will feature original prix-fixe menus ranging from $15 to $20.

Kudos

Student Life employees are constantly receiving praise from the people they serve, and many students, parents and others take the time to write notes of gratitude. Among those recently thanked are South District Housekeeping’s Tracy Head, with a Canfield Hall resident writing that she has “a wonderful attitude, she is amazing at her job.” And a parent wrote to commend South District Housekeeping’s Reggie Shaw for being “an outstanding representative of your institution. A calm professional who couldn’t do enough to help us…”
