Ohio State’s Max M. Fisher College of Business is celebrating its centennial with a special event on December 5, at Mershon Auditorium. The Centennial Celebration will recognize alumni who have forged trails of innovation and explored the frontiers of global business and continue to define the college’s path for future endeavors as they move into their second century of business education. The keynote address will be delivered by Fareed Zakaria, host of CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS, contributing editor at The Atlantic, and Washington Post columnist. Please save the date to attend one of the upcoming Student Life Connections events on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m. to be held in the Performance Hall at the Ohio Union. Professional staff will be given an opportunity to hear Dr. J provide an update on various Student Life initiatives. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the events to allow staff to mingle and enjoy light refreshments. Join us as we gather to learn about Student Life and how we are each connected to creating the extraordinary student experience.

Performance Management training prepares new supervisors in Student Life for performance planning, coaching and evaluation. Register for this blended learning course through this direct link, where you can then select the next in-person session to attend. This three-part training will be offered on December 1, 8 and 15 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Ohio Union.

Once you are registered you will have access to the course curriculum within BuckeyeLearn.

AASHE gold star-sustainability tracking, assessment and rating system

Ohio State ranks first in the Big Ten and 24th in the world on the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) 2016 Sustainability Campus Index for universities and colleges. The ratings recognize schools in 17 aspects of sustainability as measured by STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System). The report featured Ohio State’s focus on sustainability in the curriculum through the Discovery Themes programs. In addition, Ohio State Mansfield, Marion and Newark each received Silver STARS status. You can read the report online.

Student Life Social Change director Dr. Patty Cunningham recently spoke on African-American/Jewish relations at a Jewish Community Center of Youngstown forum. The Youngstown area is part of Appalachia, where Dr. Patty does a great deal of work on rural poverty and access. The event was part of Ohio Nonviolence Week.

Bowl Tour-Official 2016-2017 student, faculty, staff and parent

The Buckeyes are bowl bound and you can be, too. The Office of Student Life is again offering Ohio State’s Official Faculty, Staff, Student and Parent Bowl Tour. Packages will include travel, lodging and game day ticket. Eyes of Freedom, a nationally traveling military tribute, will visit Ohio State’s Remembrance Park next to the ROTC building on Saturday, November 26, from 8 a.m. until the end of the Ohio State/Michigan game.  The memorial depicts in life size portraits the fallen of Columbus based Lima Company Marines and honors “ALL Who Answer Our Nation’s Call.”  23 members of Lima Company died in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005.
