Student Life Energy Management and Sustainability is among several Ohio State units leading the university’s participation in RecycleMania 2019, a national recycling competition among 350 colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada to see which school can recycle and reduce the greatest amount of waste. Last year, Ohio State finished fifth out of 300 participating schools in total recycling. More information and a student recycling video are online.  

Your Plan for Health


The Ohio State Health Plan’s RN Health Promotion Specialists will provide complementary biometric screenings for Student Life employees on March 7 and 21 and May 13. These values will automatically load to your YP4H/Virgin Pulse account on the “Stats” page and you will receive credit for completing a 2019 verified biometric screening. For screening registration details, visit Log in, highlight “Biometric Health Screening,” find the “appointment code” and type in SL2019.  If you experience any difficulty, please contact Customer Service at 292-4700 with your Appointment Code. United Black World Month (2019) Imagining Black Futures


The Student Life Multicultural Center’s United Black World Month will host its keynote event on Tuesday, February 19. The celebration will include entertainment from local artists, a university-wide reception and the month's featured keynote speaker, Bakari Sellers. Once the youngest African American elected official in the nation, Bakari Sellers is now an attorney and political commentator for CNN. His keynote remarks will address education, civil rights and equality. The free event will be held in the Ohio Union Performance Hall. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and the event will begin at 6:30 p.m.

NASPA Student Financial Wellness Conference 2019 with art of stairs or building blocks

Financial Wellness

The 2019 NASPA Student Financial Wellness Conference will take place from June 16-18 in Orlando, Florida.  This impactful conference, hosted by NASPA and Student Life, will convene scholars and practitioners to discuss the complexities of college students’ financial wellness. Participants will learn effective, holistic strategies for helping students improve their fiscal health during college and remain financially stable after graduation. The early registration deadline is April 12, 2019.  More information can be found online.

Psychology of Men and Masculinities Journal cover


A paper co-written by Student Life Counseling and Consultation Service’s Daniel McKelvey has been published in the journal Psychology of Men and Masculinities. The article is titled, “In Search of Positive Masculine Role Norms: Testing the Positive Psychology Masculinity Paradigm.” McKelvey is a Doctoral Psychology intern with CCS.

Student Life’s Collegiate Recovery Community in partnership with the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery, is offering Recovery is Spoken Here training in the RPAC on Wednesday, March 13, at 1 p.m. and Thursday, April 4, at 2:30 p.m. The aim is to foster an environment where students in or seeking recovery feel accepted by their peers, are encouraged to share about their recovery, feel comfortable asking for help and are celebrated by the Ohio State community. You can register for a training event or request a training for a group of 8 or more people online at

The Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum, an interdisciplinary research forum featuring research by Ohio State graduate students, is Friday, March 1, in the Ohio Union. Student Life staff is invited to attend or volunteer to help at the forum. Available positions include set up, proctors for poster and oral presentations and general assistance. Sign-up is online. STEP-Second-year Transformational Experience program


The Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP) will hold the 2019 Spring STEP Expo on Wednesday, February 20 in the Archie Griffin Ballroom of the Ohio Union.  Past participants will be displaying posters about their STEP Signature Projects and engaging with the university community around the academic and personal transformations they’ve experienced as a result of their participation.  Students will be presenting in one of four sessions: 10-11 a.m., 2-3 p.m., 3:30-4:30 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.
