Assessment

The Office of Student Life is still accepting proposals for the 2016 Student Affairs Assessment and Research Conference, scheduled for June 24, 2016. The Center for the Study of Student Life has announced this year’s theme is “Students as Partners in Assessment.” The deadline to submit proposals is Tuesday, March 1. This conference is suited to staff at all levels of experience, as well as to students interested in assessment and research. Perhaps you heard Dr. J last month at the Student Life Connections mention access to Lynda.com for free as a Student Life staff member or GAA.

Student Life Human Resources is offering staff and graduate associates the opportunity to utilize Lynda.com, a comprehensive online learning resource, for free. Lynda.com provides over 2,000 short, instruction videos on a variety of technology, marketing, education and business topics. In addition to watching videos, learners can download the work files used and follow along with the tutorial.

Registration for Pelotonia 2016 is officially open. With over 7 different routes and hundreds of ways to volunteer, you can become involved and truly make a difference in cancer research. Student Life’s annual Conference on Leadership and Civic Engagement, open to all Ohio State students, is Saturday, March 5, 2016. Registration is underway online. The conference features small group workshop sessions, interactive sessions that create a common learning experience and is based on the Gallup Organization’s Strengthquest assessment and theory of strengths-based leadership.

The conference is sponsored by Student Life’s Keith B. Key Center for Student Leadership and Service.

Diversity

Nominations are being accepted for student leaders to attend the Vice President for Student Life’s Diversity Retreat on April 9-10 at Mohican State Park. The purpose of the retreat is to create an environment that is encouraging, open and honest which fosters cultural learning and celebrates differences.

Advise

Faculty and staff are needed to serve as advisors to Ohio State's 1,200-plus student organizations. Student organization advisors have the opportunity to work with student leaders and members in a variety of capacities. There is a set of required duties as well as many that are negotiable between you and the student organization. Email csls@osu.edu if you are interested in becoming an advisor.

Buck-I-SERV is still looking for graduate/professional students or faculty/staff members to fill advisor positions on spring
Buck-I-SERV trips, March 12-19. An application is online. With questions, contact buck-i-serv@osu.edu.  

Advisor spots include, at no cost to you: transportation, lodging, all site registration fees and a small post-trip per diem payment toward your food expenses. 

The application period for summer trips (May 7-14, 2016) is also open and due by March 20, 2016.

Student Life’s Dr. Shonali Raney has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Association for the Coordination of Counseling Center Clinical Services. Dr. Raney is the Associate Director, Clinical Services at Student Life Counseling and Consultation Service. ACCCCS was formed in November, 1996 when a group of clinical services coordinators and clinical services directors representing colleges and universities from around the country met at The Ohio State University to discuss common interests and concerns. Dr. Raney is the first Buckeye to serve on the Executive Committee in nearly a decade.
