The University Staff Advisory Committee (USAC) seeks motivated staff to serve as members during the 2017–2020 term. The University Staff Advisory Committee is currently a team of up to 30 dedicated Ohio State staff members who are working to help advocate for staff at the university. The application process is open through Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

Leadership Exchange Winter 2017 edition cover


An article co-written by Student Life Senior Vice President Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston appears in the Winter 2017 edition of Leadership Exchange, a NASPA publication. The article, titled, “Financial Wellness for a Lifetime: Educating Students on Money Management” talks about how understanding and supporting students’ financial wellness is part of educating the whole student.  A digital copy of the magazine is online.

The Center for the Study of Student Life is hosting the 7th annual Student Affairs Assessment and Research Conference on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Ohio Union. The conference theme is “Making Data Meaningful: Addressing Critical Issues.” You can register online.  

This conference is aimed at faculty, staff and students of all levels of experience, across a wide variety of departments. They are accepting proposals until Friday, March 17, for presentations that represent diverse perspectives of student affairs.

Student Life’s Collegiate Recovery Community has two new support groups available in their offices at 1230 Lincoln Tower.

  • Women’s Addiction Recovery Support Meetings, honoring all pathways to recovery. The faculty and staff meeting is the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month at 4 p.m. The open meeting is every Friday at 5 p.m.
  • Buckeyes For Recovery is an all-inclusive, weekly support group meeting for any allies of people impacted by a substance use disorder to help their effort to assist and support loved ones while also building a support network for themselves. Meetings are Mondays at 5 p.m.

Light bulb drawing with "Light up with LED"


Light Up With LED is a student-led project to promote energy efficient practices among off-campus Ohio State students. The project was made possible by a Coca-Cola Student Sustainability Grant, managed by Student Life’s department of Energy Management and Sustainability. LED bulbs use less energy than other bulbs and last more than twice as long. Light Up With LED participants can trade in non-LED bulbs and receive LED bulbs in return. More information is on their Facebook page or students can register to trade in bulbs online.

Survivor Gala (2017) on a textured background


The Student Life Sexual Civility and Empowerment Survivor Gala is Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 7-9 p.m. in the Ohio Union Archie M. Griffin West Ballroom. It is open to all members of the Ohio State and Columbus communities. Survivors, friends, family and allies are invited to celebrate the strength and courage of survivors within the Buckeye community. The Survivor Gala will feature visual art of all mediums to raise awareness, show support and encourage healing around sexual violence.

Sloopy's Sandwich Club


The 2017 Sloopy’s Diner Sandwich Club is looking for true Buckeyes. This award will honor the people who embody the spirit of the Ohio Union and strive to make a difference on campus. Winners will be honored with a Sloopy’s Diner menu item named after them. Nominate a group, co-worker, student employee, alumni, volunteer or anyone you think brings something special to the table. BuckeyeThon 2017 reveal with students holding signs for $1,510,036.39


BuckeyeThon surpassed the $1 million fundraising mark for the third consecutive year, raising $1,510,036.39 to support the Hematology, Oncology, BMT Department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Nearly 5,000 students participated in the fundraiser, which culminates in the annual Dance Marathon. In addition to their philanthropy work, BuckeyeThon works to enhance the student experience, promote the value of philanthropy, establish a spirit of service and cultivate relationships between students, faculty, staff and community members.

Best College Dining Halls 2017


Student Life Dining Services ranked as one of the Top 30 College Dining Halls as rated by LendU. The group says, “Simply put, Ohio State University offers some of the best locations, resources and meals at the campus dining halls.” Ohio State is #5 on their list, and LendU says, “Low cost meal plans and extensive dining hours bring Ohio State towards the top of our list.” They also credit Ohio State for, “extensive options for vegan, vegetarians and gluten-free students.” 

Climate Survey (2017) with Be Heard-Take the Campus Climate Survey. It's everyone's responsibility


For the third year, Ohio State is conducting a climate survey of all students. Faculty and staff are encouraged to be aware and supportive of students in completing the survey. Information collected will allow the university to inform and further enhance Buckeyes ACT, Ohio State’s comprehensive plan to combat sexual misconduct and relationship violence. The survey has been emailed to all students and remains open through Friday, March 10. Students can take the survey online. Participation is voluntary and responses are anonymous.
