Gotta Go My Own Way

Now through mid-August 2018, the northbound SR-315 exit ramp to Medical Center Dr. / King Ave. is closed. Motorists may use Goodale St. to Neil Ave., or Lane Ave. to Olentangy River Rd. Starting June 11, and continuing through late November 2018, the entrance ramp to southbound SR-315 at Cannon Dr. and 12th Ave. will be closed. Motorists may use Neil Ave. to exit this area of campus. Detour signs will be posted. Dates are weather dependent and subject to change. These closures support the Cannon Drive Relocation project.

Biometric screenings have been scheduled for Student Life employees to Know Your Numbers. The next one is Wednesday, May 23, in the RPAC. To reserve a time slot visit or call 614-292-4700 and use Appointment Code SL2018. By annually completing the PHA and a verified biometric screening, enrolled employees can reduce the cost of their medical contributions by $20 per month or by $30 per month if they and their enrolled spouse/same-sex domestic partner both complete the PHA with verified biometrics. Work This Out

Student Life’s Recreational Sports facilities will have rolling closures during the month of May for annual deep cleaning and maintenance. The RPAC is closed now through May 13; the Adventure Recreation Center, Outdoor Adventure Center and Jesse Owens South will be closed May 14-20; and the North Recreation Center will be closed May 21-27. In addition, Jesse Owens West Tennis Center and Jesse Owens North will close May 6 with both reopening in the fall. More information is online.


A [Conference] To Remember

The deadline to register for the 2018 ITGA City and University Relations Conference is Tuesday, May 15. Hosted by Student Life’s Off Campus and Commuter Services, attendees will be able to network and participate in sessions about innovation in town and gown relations. Events also include a reception at Huntington Park, a variety of mobile sessions around the community and a tour of the ‘Shoe. Attendees are also able to register for the Pre-Conference Professional Networking Event, which will feature visits to a local distillery and meadery. What Time Is It?

Time to apply for the President's Prize! Students who are graduating in autumn 2018, and spring or summer 2019 are eligible for the $100,000 President’s Prize. It includes a $50,000 living stipend and up to $50,000 in project expenses for the year after graduation. Two prizes are awarded annually. Recipients are chosen for the boldness of their ideas, their capacity to champion change and their commitment to the global community.

There are two more virtual information sessions about the 2019 President’s Prize: Thursday, May 24 at noon and Thursday, July 26 at noon. RSVPs are encouraged but not required to Applications are due by Friday, July 13.

David Anthony

[Don't] Stick to the Status Quo

Student Life BuckID director David Anthony was recently elected President-Elect of the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU). He will serve as the NACCU President-Elect through April 2019, and then as NACCU President through April 2020. David has served on the NACCU Board of Directors for several years, and has previously served as the Board Secretary, Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer. NACCU is the only association that specializes in the campus card transaction industry, and serves more than 400 member institutions nationally and internationally.


Start of Something New

Brooke Olson of Student Life Counseling and Consultation Service was recently selected to serve on the Executive Board of the Association of Staff and Faculty Women (ASFW). The association is committed to supporting the professional development of all staff and faculty women at The Ohio State University. They say, “Our goal each year is to provide dynamic and valuable professional and personal development opportunities to women on campus no matter what position type they hold or stage in their career.”


Bop to the Top

Student Life Career Counseling and Support Services Assistant Director Ryan Wilhelm received the Bob Windle Leadership Award at the recent Ohio Career Development Association conference. The award is presented “in recognition of a true leader in a career field.” The organization says about Ryan, “His enthusiasm and dedication to OCDA were noticeable from the time he was a graduate student and immediately sought to jump into a leadership role. Ryan has held 6 leadership positions in OCDA throughout the last 10 years, using strengths of motivation and leadership to move the organization forward.”

Special Olympics

Get'cha Head in the Game

The Special Olympics Ohio Summer Games will be held on Ohio State's campus the weekend of June 22 – 24. Volunteers are needed to help serve meals for athletes and coaches in the RPAC Tom W.
