Click it or Ticket

The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD), in partnership with the Ohio Department of Public Safety, will participate in the national Click It or Ticket campaign that runs May 19 through June 1. During this time, OSUPD will have a visible presence to encourage and enforce seatbelt laws in an effort to promote safety and increased seatbelt usage. And More Winners…

A team from Ohio State has won the first annual Innovation in Affordable Housing Student Design and Planning Competition. The Buckeye team led by outgoing Council of Graduate Students chief of staff Donald Wiggins, Jr. won the HUD sponsored competition over groups from New York University, Columbia University and the University of Michigan among others. They developed a design plan for the development of a Revolutionary War-era structure in Bergen County, New Jersey into new permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans.

Rec Sports marketing team award winners

Awards

The Student Life Marketing team won several awards recently for their Recreational Sports work. The team received an Award of Excellence for Welcome Week communications plan from the Central Ohio Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and six awards from NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, including two 1st place honors: Harry Potter and the Haunted Halloween at Rec Sports for Integrated Communications and Life in Motion Tumblr Blog for Student Digital Presentation.

A Sweet Pelotonia Fundraiser

Student Life Student Health Services is hosting a Pelotonia bake sale fundraiser today, (Friday May 16). From 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., SHS will hold a "donation station" on the ground floor (room 064) of Wilce. They'll have cookies, cupcakes, cakes, pies and other sweets, with proceeds going to Pelotonia for cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Recovery Community Anniversary

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to the Collegiate Recovery Community One Year Anniversary Party. The event is being held Thursday, May 22, from 3-5 p.m. at The Recovery House at Penn Place, 1478 Pennsylvania Avenue.  Celebrate the one year anniversary of the Collegiate Recovery Community and opening of The Recovery House. Safety Off-Campus

Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Coalition for a Nonviolent Columbus.  The grant will be used to purchase Buckeye Block Watch signs to be posted in the off-campus neighborhoods.  Buckeye Block Watch is an initiative to educate students about safety practices in the off-campus area and to encourage residents to "See something, Say something!"

Pay it Forward

Pay It Forward, a student cohort within the Student Life, logged over 20,000 hours of service for the 2013-14 academic year. Committed to instilling a life-long passion in Ohio State students for "paying it forward," the cohort makes giving back easy by planning, implementing and connecting students to service initiatives on campus and within the Columbus community.

Assessment and Research Conference

The 2014 Student Affairs Assessment and Research Conference, hosted by The Ohio State University's Office of Student Life, is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2014. Colleagues from Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ontario, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Michigan have already registered to learn and share ideas about assessment and research in student affairs.
