Student Life’s Adam Crawford, Access Specialist in Disability Services, has been selected to serve a Director-at-Large on AHEAD's (Association on Higher Education And Disability) Board of Directors. In this role Adam will help lead the largest professional organization for disability services professionals. The group is “committed to full participation of persons with disabilities in postsecondary education.”

Student Life produces a great many videos, and occasionally needs people to provide the narration. If you have experience as a voice over talent, in broadcasting or in theater, and are willing to volunteer your time as needed to record scripts, please contact Photo/Video Manager J. Students who are graduating in fall 2017, spring or summer 2018 are eligible for the $100,000 President’s Prize. It includes a $50,000 living stipend and up to $50,000 in project expenses for the year after graduation. Two prizes are awarded annually. Recipients are chosen for the boldness of their ideas, their capacity to champion change and their commitment to the global community.

There is one more virtual information session about the 2018 President’s Prize this month: Thursday, June 29, at noon. You can RSVP online. Applications are due on Friday, July 14. If you have any questions, please email: presidentsprize@osu.edu.

Center for the Study of Student Life’s Amanda Baker, Benjamin Andrews and Anne McDaniel co-authored an article published in the June edition of Sociology Compass on “The Impact of Student Loans on College Access, Completion and Returns.” The article examines how student loans influence student experiences prior to, during and after college. It also offers recommendations for how research can better understand students’ financial wellness more holistically. You can read the article online.

The popular lip sync competition is back for this year’s Student Life Celebration on Tuesday, July 25. Organize your group (any size) and submit your group name, group members and your song to Lane Washington (Washington.262@osu.edu) no later than Monday, July 17.  

Teams will be judged on how well they lip sync, choreography and enthusiasm. Songs will be strictly vetted based on appropriateness for the event. All Student Life staff and student employees are eligible.

The Ohio Union has been nominated as Best Venue for Formal Affairs, with emphasis on our student, university and corporate fundraisers. The online competition is sponsored by Unique Venues, an organization that highlights convention and meeting locations. You can vote online now through Friday, June 30. Click on Best Venue for Formal Affairs. Winners will be recognized at Unique Venues Annual Membership Conference in October. Last year the Ohio Union was nominated and finished second in the online balloting.
