Come meet your Columbus firefighters at the annual Recognition and Thank You Lunch hosted by Student Life’s Risk and Emergency Management Department. The event will be at Kennedy Commons on October 3, 4 and 5 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. each day. You are invited to say thank you or sit down and chat with your local firefighters who serve all of Ohio State.

Student Life’s Collegiate Recovery Community is holding an Ohio State Recovery Walk on Wednesday, September 28, at noon. The walk will begin at Thompson Library and end at Browning Amphitheatre. The event is part of Ohio State’s observation of September as Recovery Month.

Student Life is sponsoring an information session on Addressing Opioids on Campus: Naloxone, Treatment and Recovery on Thursday, October 6, at 4 p.m. at the Wilce Student Health Center, room 170 A/B. The session will cover medication assisted treatment offered at Student Health Services and recovery programs through the Collegiate Recovery Community. There is no need to pre-register. Ohio State’s Homecoming celebration is next week. The 104th annual Homecoming Parade is Friday, September 30, at 6 p.m. It begins at Ohio Stadium and ends at Student Life’s Ohio Union with grandstand seating areas and food along the route on Woodruff and High Streets. The Pep Rally immediately follows at the Ohio Union. Registration is still open for those wishing to ride, walk or enter a float in the parade. Contact

Thanks to the generosity of Coca-Cola, the Office of Student Life is proud to offer the Student Sustainability Grant for student-led initiatives that support Ohio State's goal to reduce greenhouse gases, conserve resources and promote sustainability. Seed funding of $500 to $15,000 is available to undergraduate, graduate and professional students or student groups for projects that directly contribute toward reduced environmental impacts on campus. Additional funding may be available and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. More information and the application is online.

Leadership Summit in block letters


Registration is open now for the inaugural Leadership Summit, featuring bestselling author Jim Kouzes. The Summit agenda includes a morning session led by Kouzes, co-author of The Leadership Challenge and just released Learning Leadership, followed by an afternoon panel featuring university and local leaders. Participation is limited to only 300 attendees.

The Leadership Summit will be held on Wednesday, October 5, from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. Registration is $150 and includes lunch. The deadline to register is September 26. More information and registration is online.

Student Life Counseling and Consultation Service is sponsoring Recess, a free Mental Health Awareness Week activity designed to encourage everyone to “Take a Break, Play and Relax.” Recess will be held on the South Oval on Thursday, October 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The aim of this event is to bring the nostalgia of school recess and the playfulness of fun and childhood into the present. There will be activities, snacks and prizes. More information is available online.

Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society has presented a Gold Torch award to the Mabel G. Freeman chapter at The Ohio State University. The Gold Torch is a national distinction conferred annually upon the most outstanding chapters of Mortar Board. Recipients of the Gold Torch excel in all areas of chapter operations while promoting scholarship, leadership and meaningful service to their institutions.

The Student Life Student Wellness Center is recruiting undergraduate students for the Wellness Ambassador program. Wellness Ambassadors deliver over 200 educational presentations per year in a variety of settings and work as a team to plan and implement events across campus promoting the nine dimensions of wellness. Zika Virus- Get the Faces with a drawing of a mosquito


Zika is a disease caused by the Zika virus and is spread primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. Sexual transmission of Zika virus is well documented, though the CDC continues to update advice related any known transmission of Zika. Their most up-to-date recommendations can be found on the CDC website.
